{"id":753,"date":"2009-02-11T11:27:31","date_gmt":"2009-02-11T15:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/?p=753"},"modified":"2009-02-11T11:34:46","modified_gmt":"2009-02-11T15:34:46","slug":"a-fascinating-way-to-kill-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/2009\/02\/a-fascinating-way-to-kill-time\/","title":{"rendered":"A Fascinating Way to Kill Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just saw <a href=\"http:\/\/failblog.org\/2009\/02\/10\/google-suggest-fail\/\" target=\"_blank\">this on FAILBlog<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/failblog.org\/2009\/02\/10\/google-suggest-fail\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-755\" title=\"Google Suggest\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/google-suggest-1.jpg\" alt=\"Google Suggest\" width=\"420\" srcset=\"http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/google-suggest-1.jpg 500w, http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/google-suggest-1-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wow, right?\u00a0 303,000 people did a search on Google for &#8216;I am extremely terrified of chinese people.&#8217; ??<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s amazing about that is that it actually works.\u00a0 Go to Google.com and type something into the query field and see what Google Suggest comes up with.\u00a0 We tried &#8216;I am scared of&#8217; and got this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-756\" title=\"google-suggest-2\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/google-suggest-2.jpg\" alt=\"google-suggest-2\" width=\"420\" srcset=\"http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/google-suggest-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/google-suggest-2-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some of that is predictable &#8212; 14 million people are scared of death or dying, 7.8 million are scared of the dark.<\/p>\n<p>Some of it is disconcerting &#8212; 1.7 million are scared of Obama vs. only 472K are scared of Pailn.<\/p>\n<p>And some of it is just a fun logic game:\u00a0 if 26 million are scared of <em>people<\/em> and 16 million are scared of <em>themselves<\/em>, that must leave 10 million people who are scared of <em>you<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway&#8230; it&#8217;s a fun way to kill some time, and it&#8217;s actually a fascinating exercise to learn what people are searching for on Google these days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just saw this on FAILBlog: Wow, right?\u00a0 303,000 people did a search on Google for &#8216;I am extremely terrified of chinese people.&#8217; ??
