{"id":399,"date":"2008-09-18T13:37:02","date_gmt":"2008-09-18T17:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/?p=399"},"modified":"2008-09-18T14:02:26","modified_gmt":"2008-09-18T18:02:26","slug":"crispin-porter-bogusky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jeffclarke.us\/blog\/2008\/09\/crispin-porter-bogusky\/","title":{"rendered":"Crispin Porter + Bogusky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ok.\u00a0 It&#8217;s now been generally accepted that Microsoft&#8217;s Seinfeld-powered ad campaign was a major bust (although to give them a small amount of credit, the edited version of commercial 2 was better than the full 4:30 disaster).<\/p>\n<p>This morning I thought it&#8217;s perhaps time to get to the bottom of this: which ad firm has the monumental task of trying to make Microsoft look cool.<\/p>\n<p>The answer? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpbgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crispin Porter + Bogusky.<\/a> Apparently <em><strong>the<\/strong><\/em> go-to people for when your company is completely out of touch but you want to be perceived as being &#8216;with it.&#8217; (you can read more about them on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajax-blog.com\/it%E2%80%99s-over-for-seinfeld-but-crispin-porter-keeps-microsoft-business.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ajax Blog<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>While I have to say they&#8217;ve been doing a pretty pathetic job on the Microsoft campaign so far, I was at least curious enough to check out what else they&#8217;d done.\u00a0 Turns out many things.\u00a0 This was my favorite:<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/cv157ZIInUk&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>I hadn&#8217;t seen that round of VW commercials &#8212; the only ones I&#8217;ve seen are the talking car\/brooke shields ones which are not as funny.<\/p>\n<p>So they can do something right, I guess.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll have to wait and see how the Microsoft campaign goes.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t imagine any other outcome than the commercials being kind of ok &#8212; at best &#8212; but mostly serving as an excellent set up for a hilarious Apple counter-attack.<\/p>\n<p>A Microsft engineer who looks like John Hodgeman whining about how <a href=\"http:\/\/valleywag.com\/5051666\/eva-longoria-john-hodgman-clone-lead-seinfeld-replacements-at-microsoft\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;I&#8217;m a PC and I&#8217;ve been made into a stereotype&#8217;<\/a>?
